The 2022 Lion of England 1oz gold coin is the first bullion release in the new Royal Tudor Beasts Collection from The Royal Mint. Like the Queen's Beasts series, the collection will feature 10 'Beasts', this time consisting of statues that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court.
The Lion of England is of course one of Britain's most iconic symbols, and remained so throughout the Tudor period. The statue is one of the first to line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court, and bears a shield with the combined arms of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.
The 2022 Lion of England gold coin is the first bullion coin to be released from the series, and contains one troy ounce of pure 999.9 gold. As with other coins from The Royal Mint, it is considered legal tender and is therefore exempt from Capital Gains Tax. It will also be VAT-free as investment gold. The coin will be in production for several months until the next coin in the series is released, so collectors should purchase as soon as possible if they wish to get all coins in the series.
